Why men feel compelled to brag in front of women?

Ladies, all of us must accept that they have got few male friends who brag a lot but they don’t think they are. Every woman has a certain friend who simply can’t stop talking about his sexual conquests, the amount of money he has, how good-looking his body is, how much he knows about bikes or bodybuilding and the number of fancy restaurants which he has visited.  No woman can remain impressed with a guy when everything starts looking excessive from his side.

Why the need of bragging?

Why men feel the need to promote themselves in exaggerated manner when they are sitting with a girl? The tone of voice, posture, choice of words and attitude transforms into different colors altogether. It is obvious that evolution has wired men’s brains to self-promote them in front of opposite gender in order to be seen as potential mates. However, most men pursue this behavior to extra limits because they are afraid to be seen as jerks in front of women.

The problem with it:

There is a huge difference in letting other person know about your abilities and making yourself look like a fool.  Excessive bragging makes a man sound self-absorbed, egotistic and obnoxious. Women do like confident men but they have certain filters which they use for rejection. Most men need to understand that excess of everything is bad no matter how good it is.

Self- promotion is still fine but it is bound to ward off women if they smell borderline snobbishness in your attitude. Highlighting your abilities and talents is a kind of behavior which every man or woman practices. It is a very natural to start sounding arrogant and look down on others while trying to impress certain people. Trust us, that would not go too well with women because they would like to stay away from self-absorbed snobs. It will affect your social reputation which would perhaps snowball into repulsion for you.

We are certain of the fact that every woman has met with some men in their lifetime who were saturated with inflated egos and thought they were blessed with supernatural abilities which were so important that everyone needed to know. Gone are the times when women were awed and impressed by the presence of such men Strong and independent women would not take much time to reject such obnoxious men.

Why women have problem with bragging?

Nowadays, Women don’t like men who obviously consider themselves as superior to others. Men might think that they are impressing women with by displaying extra confidence but it is other way around. It is considered highly unattractive by women when a man fails to acknowledge those around him. The foolish display of overconfidence is equivalent to saying- “I am better than you and anyone else.” Women take it as a red flag and prefer to flee because they can see the future where there is no place for themselves as entire space would be occupied by such self-absorbed men.

Why men practice such behavior?

Bragging has been associated with low self-confidence where a person (men, in this case) is constantly looking for approval from other people. Psychology has established that such type of behavior is seen in people who are insecure about the way they are. For instance, bragging about sexual adventures would be seen as attention seeking behavior and need for approval. The truth is that there is a huge difference between self-promotion and bragging which is taken lightly by men. If you are a great guy with great talents, then it would automatically reflect in your behavior. Men are misguided into believing that showing off would earn them brownie points in the eyes of women.

What should men do instead?

1. Restrain yourself from vomiting about your respect for women. Let your actions speak for yourself. The saying, “Actions speak louder than words”, could not be more relevant. If you want women to know that you hold them in high regards, show them that you care.  Women are highly sensitive beings who can sniff misogyny from miles away. They can always tell if a man is faking his goodness or is genuinely being respectful.

2. Women like those men who are not afraid of showing their flaws. Showing oneself as perfect would be equivalent to presenting yourself as vain, selfish and short-sighted. Trust us; you don’t want them to think that about you. It is better to be realistic than go wrong.

3. Talk about your likes and dislikes but don’t forget to listen to your partner. It would create a good impression on her

4. Choose your words wisely. Don’t use slang or derogatory words, and treat waiters and service staff nicely if you are sitting in a restaurant. The way you treat others would reveal a great deal about you.
